Marquee and family home wedding photography
Having your wedding at your family home, or having your wedding in a marquee on a family estate, is such a special experience. Many couples are choosing to marry at their family home, as it’s such a personal, joyful and meaningful experience, and I have photographed many of these types of celebrations in the 400+ weddings I’ve shot in my varied wedding photography career.
Why couples choose a marquee wedding at home
Marrying at your family home creates a wedding that feels more personal, relaxed, and meaningful than a traditional venue. It’s become increasingly popular, especially for garden, outdoor, and marquee weddings. The relaxed atmosphere coupled with with familiar surroundings, and the complete freedom to design the day based around where you grew up, makes for a beautiful start to married life.
You’re not bound to the traditions or rules of a wedding venue, and I love the creativity and fun that couples bring to their at-home and garden weddings.
Photographing weddings at home
I’ve photographed over 400 weddings and if there’s something I know about capturing marquee weddings, it’s that no two are ever the same.
There’s plenty of logistics involved in planning and arranging a marquee wedding at your family home, so it’s important you choose a photographer who is used to dealing with, and capturing, all the different elements of that type of wedding day.
You may be marrying at a local or childhood church, or holding your ceremony in the grounds of your home. I love the nuances of both; whether it’s being driven to the church in the family Land Rover or walking the short walk through the village, it’s important to capture all those unique moments.
And don’t forget to involve the animals in your family too - I adore seeing them! Dogs at weddings is one of my favourite things.
“Sally’s style of capturing natural moments really worked for us and her encouragement to get the dogs out made it even better! ”
The freedom to create and enjoy
Couple portraits at outdoor and family home weddings
When photographing weddings during the summertime, I like to capture some photos of just the two of you before dinner, usually during your drinks reception, and then a handful after dinner too, just as the sun goes down. This ensures we get some lovely photos of you both in your finery, and then some more at golden hour where you will probably be feeling much more relaxed and ease into things.
