Aimee & James | Upham
It’s fair to say when I arrived at Aimée’s family home for bridal prep on her wedding day, watching the rain thunder down on the marquee next to the house, I groaned at the thought of a wet and windy marquee reception! But what do I know? 2021 was throwing up all the surprises as usual, and so Aimée and James’ DIY marquee wedding in lovely Hampshire went from big fat rain in the morning to golden afternoon sunshine and a fab sunset featuring Finn, their dalmatian.
A+J were another couple who rescheduled their summer 2020 wedding by 12 months or so, so they could enjoy the celebration they had planned. I know they weren’t entirely convinced it would be the day they’d hoped for until much nearer their wedding day, as I remember our telephone conversation talking about how their day would work if restrictions were still in place and if they only had 30 guests. But, by late July, we were all systems go and they had their dreamy wedding as planned.
Their day was peppered with colour and there is nothing I love more at a wedding than lots of eye-popping colour, and their florist Smell The Roses had done a superb flower arch at the church which must be seen to be believed! After the ceremony at the local church, I jumped in with Aimée and James into a vintage Mustang. We headed to a beaut little field with the South Downs in the background for a few cheeky photos before heading back to her family home and the reception.
By this time, the rain had stopped and the sun came out, and I was delighted for them as they could finally enjoy the marquee reception the deserved, complete with outdoor seating and games. Throw in a risqué Best Man joke that drew audible gasps and laughs in equal measure, and it was a winner - I loved seeing the range of reactions!
As the sun began to set, we headed into a little wilderness away from everyone else, and the family dogs joined us for golden hour photos, including Finn, their dalmatian. Aimée and James were so accommodating and generous all throughout our wedding journey together and I loved capturing their day. More DIY marquee weddings like this please!
What they said:
“We booked Sally for our wedding back in 2019 ahead of a 2020 wedding. Sally was on hand to support us when we had to rearrange our wedding because of the Covid pandemic and was always on the end of messages or made time for a call and would go out of her way to support us to answer any concerns. Sally was quick to suggest rearranging our wedding based on her in-depth knowledge of the wedding industry and because of this we were able to reschedule to a new date in August 2021 without losing any suppliers. We both felt that Sally cared about us as a couple and we were not just clients. We both felt that our day was in great hands knowing Sally was going to be documenting it.
Sally shot our wedding day and the photos she has produced are incredible. We really enjoyed working with Sally and her laid back style put both myself and my wife Aimee at ease as neither of us were particularly fond of having our photos taken. Sally's style of capturing natural moments really worked for us and her encouragement to get the dogs out made it even better! The bridesmaids still laugh at Sally's tips of 'pubes not boobs' when doing photos with flowers! We would recommend anyone to Sally and the photos that have come from her are stunning. If you're looking for a quality photographer to capture one of the most important days of your life, consider Sally.”
