2022: A Review
I can scarcely believe I’m here writing my end of year blog once more, and yet here we are!
This year included the last of my postponed/rescheduled weddings from 2020/21 and I couldn’t have been more delighted to see all of those couples finally tie the knot, after having waited so long. I know for a few of them it had been an agonising process of arranging several dates but, we got there in the end! And boy you guys celebrated in style!
I started my year off in Suffolk at Copdock Hall for Sam and Liam’s wedding, and their black tie affair was one of several black tie weddings I captured in 2022. Is black tie going to knock blue suits off of their perch for wedding menswear now? It was great to start my 2022 wedding season off in Suffolk and I visited Copdock Hall twice more this year.
I wasn’t just in Suffolk; throughout the past 12 months I’ve been around the UK and my weddings have taken me to Essex, Suffolk, Sussex, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and the small matter of a hop over to the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Amber and Myles entrusted me to capture their intimate Italian wedding in early September and it was an absolute beaut - take me back please!
I had two couples come back to me this year where their wedding plans look like they were put on hold indefinitely thanks to the pandemic, and I was so happy they returned to me when their plans finally went ahead. Anna and Jeremy’s marquee wedding on a scorching hot July day was super emotional as they watched a montage of clips from some of their friends back home in Jeremy’s native New Zealand, and equally Chloe and Stephen had a small slice of New Jersey in Braintree, Essex as family and friends headed across the Atlantic to see them wed. I am, as ever, blown away by the kindness and openness shared by all my couples, their family and friends.
This may be the first year I haven’t heard Ed Sheeran as a first dance song, I can’t quite remember. Perhaps it means Ed is due some new music out. It was great to hear a real eclectic mix of music for couples’ first dance songs, even country music! Twice!!
There’s been some serious partying going on in 2022, with many of you getting up on your chairs and tables before the desserts have even arrived! It always makes for great photos where there’s a real party atmosphere and I certainly saw that at several weddings this year, notably Alex and Max’s Tuffon Hall wedding where her dad said it felt like an audition for Love Island, and Carly and Jake’s big day at Fennes where they had The Function Band perform. If you haven’t seen The Function Band, check them out. And if you have, then you know what I’m saying. It was wild!
As ever, I’m in awe of how many of you are able to share elements from your lives through your weddings. There’ll never be a time during the speeches when I’m not choking back a tear behind the camera as you talk about the loss of loved ones, or those magical times when I’m privy to the most personal of moments and stories. Thank you for sharing a small slice of your lives with me, I always feel so privileged.
I’ve enjoyed lots of special moments this year, and you’d be surprised to learn how invested us photographers become in your story. For several of my couples this year, it’s been 4-5 years of communication between us, leading up to the big day, and before we know it, our journey together is over. Be assured when I say each and every wedding stays with me. As ever, I pour my heart and soul into capturing your day as it happens, giving you a set of images you can enjoy for a very long time.
