Saadia + Mizan | Hylands House wedding
When looking at a bucket list of things you really want to photograph at a wedding, Saadia and Mizan helped me out by including a lot of them! Back in August, on a super hot summer’s day, they tied the knot with a traditional ceremony at Hylands House, Chelmsford, followed by a reception with so many amazing things! Supercars? Check. Doves? Check. Fire-eater? Check. These interspersed a day of love and laughter, which I knew would be the case, following our brilliant pre-wedding shoot we’d done over at Kew Gardens, which you can check out.
It was a late afternoon ceremony so I headed over to photograph the bride getting ready, at one of the pretty rooms at the Lion Inn, in Boreham. Saadia’s bridal outfit was A-MAZING (see pics below shortly!) as were her skyscraper Jimmy Choo heels, which I was totally jealous of! At the same time, Mizan was getting ready over at Down Hall country house hotel, where he and the gents would travel in style over to Hylands, in a Rolls Royce Phantom no less! The Rolls headed the convoy of motors including a Bentley Continental, a 550bhp Range Rover, a BMW i8, I could go on…. honestly, these boys like their cars.
Once all the guests had arrived at Hylands House, Saadia arrived in a vintage wedding car, and the ceremony was underway. As is typical with Asian weddings, it was standing room only in the ornate ceremony room at Hylands, and once Saadia and Mizan tied the knot, they headed outside where Saadia’s sister had arranged some surprise visitors – two white doves. With Mizan looking increasingly uncomfortable holding onto one of them, they were launched into the air. Releasing white doves symbolises love and peace, and represents a bride and groom unifying these things on their wedding day.
Once the birds had skedaddled, there was a host of other brilliant things going on, including an ice cream station using a vintage bicycle and a photobooth within a rickshaw (amazing!).
After the speeches and cutting the cake, the newly-married couple took part in ‘the shoe game’, which is a bit of a variation on Mr & Mrs, with both parties holding one of each other’s shoes, and holding it in the air to answer! These guys were brilliant and it made for much hilarity – particularly the question about driving and crashes! (Sorry Saadia.)
This was a truly spectacular day, which was rounded off with another great surprise from the bride’s sister, which was a fire-eater. I’ve never seen one of these live, and I have to say it was amazing, hopefully my photos do it justice. Judge for yourselves by scrolling down!
