Hannah & Matthew | DIY marquee wedding
When Hannah contacted me many, many months ago to book her wedding photography, she didn’t have to try very hard to convince me: her husband-to-be is in the Royal Marines, they’d be having clay pigeon shooting at their reception, and their labrador would be there too! Surely a photographer’s dream mix for a summer wedding?
Though Hannah and Matthew don’t live in Essex, their wedding was be centred around Epping, specifically his grandfather’s property in Epping Green, a substantial plot perfectly situated to host a wedding! The plan was a church ceremony a few miles away in Theydon Garnon, followed by a marquee reception back in Epping Green on what we hoped would be a glorious summer’s day in early August – cut to a crazy mix of sun, rain, wind, sun, rain, and WIND! Boy it got windy – particularly when we ventured into the wheat fields which you’ll see below.
There’s something rather special about celebrations at a family home, along with a DIY reception with lots of lovely details like bunting, drinks stations, home-made games and so on. It really was incredibly well put-together, even down to the three different wedding cakes, I mean why just have one when you can incorporate pork pies and cheese too?
This Epping wedding had so many amazing moments and elements, it really was hard to narrow down all the wonderful images for this blog post, but of course I loved seeing Bear the labrador get involved as Dog of Honour (see below), there can never be enough dogs at weddings!
