2025: Behind The Scenes of a Wedding Photographer
The wedding photographer in her natural habitat.
If you’re curious to know what goes on behind the scenes at a wedding, particularly for a wedding photographer, then top scrolling : it’s my annual Behind The Scenes of Weddings: 2025 edition!
Of course I can only speak on behalf of myself, a wedding photographer, and not other wedding industry professionals, as to what happened behind closed doors in 2025, so strap in.
I’m so lucky to call photographing people’s weddings my job, it really is bizarre sometimes when I think about it, especially as your wedding day runs on trusting a group of unconnected individual suppliers to turn up, collaborate, and provide exactly what you envisaged for your big day! So I’m always grateful when I get to work with the other suppliers in our wedding industry, particularly when they’re my pals and we get to have a real laugh along the way!
After 10 years in the wedding industry and having shot over 400 weddings, I am constantly amazed by how many other wedding suppliers I meet for the first time! It’s an industry that so many people want to participate in and we’re all there for one sole purpose: to make your wedding day exceptional! It’s been a pleasure meeting new people and seeing new faces working their magic this year 🤩
This year I’ve enjoyed being back at lots of venues I’m familiar with, including those I am a preferred supplier for, some I WANT to be a preferred supplier for (ha ha) and some I’ve never visited before. On the whole the hospitality has been brilliant and I love collaborating with wedding venues who value and respect how wedding photographers work.
Shout out to all the venues/caterers who forgot to feed us photographers this year! Or gave us the spare stone cold vegan option instead of the hot main option that was paid for - perfect sustenance after being on my feet for 7 hours. I thought this problem was in the past - let’s do better in 2026 eh?
I guess you want to know what things have gone wrong, or the juicy gossip from this year??
Truth be told, I never seem to have much in the way of juicy gossip from wedding days. I always have the best couples and in turn they have the best friends and families, and the suppliers they choose tend to be consummate professionals like myself…!
The juicy gossip tends to be when I see my second shooters being asked for their telephone numbers from guests, or that time my wedding colleagues at one venue we were working at found out their newlywed couple from another wedding at the same venue a few weeks ago had already split up… (not one of mine though).
There’s been the usual traffic woes, and anyone who has to get on the M11 / M25 to get to a wedding knows the squeaky bum feeling when cars grind to a halt in front of you! The M11 decided to close just as I was about to get on it for one of my summer weddings this year, but thankfully I got there just a few minutes after I was due to arrive, after rally driving round some country lanes.
And if anyone’s in any doubt, roadworks and road closures are always done on a Saturday night, leading to diversions of epic proportions as I’ve been on my way home from a 12-hour day; I can confirm I have hysterically screamed at my SatNav more than once as I find myself driving up a gravel track in the middle of nowhere when all I want to do is get home 🤪
I also accidentally shot a whole wedding in Jpeg - this one will only be appreciated by other wedding photographers and videographers I feel.
Speaking of other wedding photographers and videographers, as ever, I am in awe of your talent, skill, patience, fun, humour and ability to tolerate me as your compatriot for a whole wedding day! I always have SUCH a good time when I am working alongside videographers and the second shooters I bring to my weddings. Thank you to everyone who second shot for me in 2025, not only do you take great photos, you also are bags of fun to be around, too. You keep me sane and that’s important.
So with that in mind, here’s a selection of dodgy images of me and my wedding mates take when we’re supposed to be working. You all got your photos in the end, didn’t you?!
Warning: I appear to be wearing the same clothes for most of these. Note to self: buy more clothes for 2026 weddings.
You made it to the end! If you’d like to see the best images from my 2025 weddings, but this time in portrait orientation and with some catchy music, check out my Best of 2025 reel HERE
