Aimee + Martin | Fennes wedding

Aimee and Martin’s Spring wedding at the ever-popular Fennes in Braintree, was bang in the middle of a rainy week, back in the middle of May. But you’d never know it from the photos below, because somehow the weather gods were smiling on Aimee and Martin, and it only drizzled in small intervals on their day – and only when we were all inside!

I’d met Aimee and Martin many months prior, when they were referred to me by one of my previous lovely couples, so I had a lot to live up to! I’d done their pre-wedding shoot with them at Flatford Mill in Suffolk a few weeks prior, and we were raring to go for the wedding.

On the day, Aimee and Martin both got ready in Fennes’ manor house, albeit in different places – cue much closing of blinds so no-one could peer in and catch a glimpse of the bride before they were due!

Although they had hoped for an outdoor ceremony, due to the previous day’s rain and a poor forecast for the day ahead, the ceremony was held inside, and it was accompanied wonderfully by the brilliant Scintillo String Quartet, who played a great mix of songs. (Star Wars fans, you would have joined in the muffled guffaws of appreciation when the quartet played the Mos Eisley Cantina Band song, during the signing of the register.)

The rain then dutifully held off so the newly married pair could enjoy a sunny drinks reception out around the grounds, before we headed inside for speeches and dinner. The speeches were rounded off superbly with Aimee’s sister and one of her bridesmen performing an original song to Aimee, Martin and the guests by way of a surprise. It gave a little flavour of what happened on the hen do, though I couldn’t possibly divulge the lyrics because, as you know, what happens on the hen, stays on the hen. (Spoiler: Drinking/vomiting)

The sun made a cameo appearance towards the end of the night just long enough for me to capture a couple of wicked veil shots before the party commenced, and I left the new Mr and Mrs as the drinks flowed and dancefloor shapes were thrown….!
